Bucaramanga, also known as the "Ciudad de los Parques" ("The City of the Parks") and "Ciudad Bonita" ("Pretty City"), is located on a plateau in the Colombian Andes. The city of Bucaramanga is surrounded by extensive rural areas despite it's recent urbanization. If you are looking for a slower pace and a city off the beaten track, then Bucaramanga is for you. Bucaramanga receives very few toursits and almost none from North America. What Bucaramanaga offers is a comfortable city surrounded by, and in close proximity to the Extreme Sport Capital of Colombia, San Gil.

 

San Gil

San Gil is Colombia's Extreme Sport Capital offering river rafting on 3 different rivers, multiple parasailing locations, rappelling, hydroplaning, caving, bungee jumping, canoeing, parascending, hiking and horse riding.

The river rafting is found on the Fonce (Grade2-3), the Suarez (Grade 4+) and the Chicamocha (Grade 4).

For those looking to enjoy scenic beauty, there is the Parque El Gallineral at the rivers edge in San Gil. With towering Ceiba trees straddling the river Fonce and dripping with Spanish moss the scene is quite breathtaking. A stroll around the well-tended gardens might be just the anecdote to the exertions of other days.
